Mobility Device Repair
Bikechain is available to assist you with minor repairs on your wheelchair, rollator, walker, cane, and more!
We provide tools and mechanic expertise to teach you how to fix your device on the spot. Our model is do-it-together, meaning mechanics work with you to assess issues and fix the device as a team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "do-it-together" mean?
Bikechain has a do-it-together model for mobility device repair, meaning that we work on your device with you.
We understand that even with mechanical guidance; energy, hand strength, and dexterity are all barriers to completing repairs yourself. We are happy to help you physically work on your device, while working together to diagnose the issue and adjust to your needs.
You are also welcome to do-it-yourself. This means onsite mechanics can help you diagnose issues, provide tools, and guide you step-by-step through completing the repair independently.
What repairs can you help me with?
We can assist with minor repairs, for example:
- tightening brakes
- adjusting fit
- truing (straightening) wheels
- installing replacement parts
- and more!
What repairs can't you help me with?
- We can’t help with any electrical components (ie. issues with motors, wiring, or batteries).
- We don’t sell replacement parts (ex. new wheels) but are happy to help you install replacement parts if you bring them with you.
- We don’t replace hydraulic brakes (ie. brakes with fluid in them).
- For more major repairs, we might direct you to a more specialized mobility device repair service.
Is your space accessible?
In many ways, we are!
Read our full accessibility guide here.
Can I drop off my device and have you fix it for me?
Whoever is bringing a device for repairs must remain onsite.
How much does a repair cost?
It’s pay-what-you-can for the help you receive.
We recognize that disabled people often face financial barriers and we have a zero-judgment policy for the amount that you are able to pay. It’s up to you!
Do I need to bring my own tools?
Nope! We provide standard tools and equipment for many repairs.
If you know that your device requires a specialized tool (ex. a unique key to take off the wheels) please make sure to bring it with you.
Do I need to bring my own parts?
Yes! Because we’re primarily a bicycle repair space, we don’t carry specialized parts for mobility devices (ex. new wheels, new brake pads).
If you bring replacement parts with you, we’re happy to help install them.
Do I need to make an appointment?
No! Our space is 100% drop-in and we’re ready to help you anytime during our regular hours.
Will repairing my device at Bikechain affect my insurance / void my warranty?
We are NOT a licensed, accredited mobility device repair centre. Consider visiting Bikechain similar to repairing your device at home or with a friend.
Some insurance policies require that you only repair your device through an accredited service. Some devices may void their warranty if they are repaired at home.
However, we know that formalized repair services can be expensive, have long wait times, or come with other barriers to access.
If you are concerned about insurance or warranty claims, double check with your policy before you visit and feel free to come in and chat with us about your options.
Who can I contact about accessibility requests / feedback?
