Frequently Asked Questions
What repairs can you help me with?
We can assist with minor repairs like tightening brakes, adjusting fit, straightening wheels, installing replacement parts, and more.
What repairs can't you help me with?
We can’t help with any electrical components (ie. issues with motors, wiring, or batteries).
We don’t carry replacement parts (ex. new wheels) but are happy to help you install replacement parts if you bring them with you.
Is your space accessible?
Location: Bikechain is located at 230 College St. The entrance is on Huron St. Watch this video (slide 2) for where to find the shop.
Doors: The door to the shop is not automatic, and doors are locked from the outside. There is a doorbell outside: ring it and we will come open the door. Our doorway is approximately 35″ wide.
Stairs: Our shop is at ground level and has no stairs.
Washrooms: There is an accessible, single stall, non-gendered washroom nearby in the building. The doors to the washroom are automatic.
Vehicle drop-off: There is space by the entrance for drop-offs, and nearby curb cuts for sidewalk access.
Parking: There are paid Green P parking spaces directly outside the entrance. The closest underground lot is the Green P garage directly beside Bikechain (the entrance is the driveway just north of our door).
Masking: Our space is currently “mask-encouraged”. The masking culture at Bikechain is presently low and most participants in the space tend to be unmasked.
Can I drop off my device and have you fix it for me?
Unfortunately no! We’re primarily a Do-It-Yourself bicycle repair space, meaning that we provide tools and mechanic expertise to teach you how to complete repairs independently.
You don’t need any mechanical experience to work on your device with us – we’ll teach you on the spot!
If there is an access barrier preventing you from completing the repair on your own (ex. limited hand mobility) we are happy to help you with the physical repair itself while explaining what we’re doing, but you must be onsite for us to help you with your device.
How much does a DIY repair cost?
It’s pay-what-you-can for the help you receive.
We recognize that disabled people often face financial barriers and we have a zero-judgment policy for the amount that you are able to pay.
Do I need to bring my own tools?
Nope! We provide standard tools and equipment for many repairs.
If you know that your device requires a specialized tool (ex. a unique key to take off the wheels) please make sure to bring it with you.
Do I need to bring my own parts?
Yes! Because we’re primarily a bicycle repair space, we don’t carry specialized parts for mobility devices (ex. new wheels, new brake pads).
If you bring replacement parts with you, we’re happy to help install them.
Do I need to make an appointment?
No! Our space is 100% drop-in and we’re ready to help you anytime during our regular hours.
Who can I contact about accessibility requests / feedback?
