Bikechain has a wonderful volunteer culture.
Our staff and volunteers are awesome! Volunteers become part of our small Bikechain family. We have a community of people that are dedicated, friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable. We train people in useful, sustainable skills that they use for the rest of their lives. If you would like to volunteer in The Shop specifically, you need to be open to educating other students, walking them through repairs and listening to their needs.
Volunteers receive a discount on some of our supplies, as well as invitations to specialized workshops, social gatherings, bicycle conferences and volunteer-only hours at the Shop to work on their bikes!
Bikechain has a variety of volunteer support areas:
Shop Operations – learning and working with bicycle mechanics, helping with sales and inventory
Communications – visualizing information with graphic design and photography; updating stakeholders with report writing and analysis; building a following of users with social media
Grant Writing and Fundraising – identifying funding sources, writing, building partnerships, executing on a fundraising strategy
Community Engagement – engaging in educational outreach with University of Toronto organizations, clubs, and other non-profits
Coding and Programming – design the backend of Bikechain; add apps to your portfolio
